Baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost:
Baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is the rite,or ordinance by which persons are admitted into a Church of Christ.
(Do not forget who is the Father, Son, and Holly Spirit: Jesus Christ)
Water Baptism = Is the public profession of faith and discipleship.
Baptism signifies—
*A confession of faith in Christ;
*A cleansing or washing of the soul from sin;
*A death to sin and a new life in righteousness.
(Baptism dose not save) (Baptism dose not cleans you from sins)
The command to baptize was co-extensive with the command to preach the gospel.
All nations were to be evangelized; and they were to be made disciples,
admitted into the fellowship of Christ’s religion, by baptism.
(Matthew 28:19)
It appears to have been a kind of transition from the Jewish baptism to the Christian.
The distinction between John’s baptism and Christian baptism
appears in the case of Apollos, (Acts 18:26,27) and of the disciples at
Ephesus mentioned (Acts 19:1-6)
We cannot but draw from this history the inference that in
Christian baptism there was a deeper spiritual significance;
but at the same time this water baptism was only done first
by John the Baptist; to bring the Old Testament into the New Testament;
John the Baptist was no longer needed after Jesus was baptized;
This water baptism was the start of the ministry of Jesus:
The Holy Spirit also came upon Jesus after He was baptized:
John the Baptist was the first person to have the Holy Spirit in Him;
Luke 1: 13-17
13. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: because thy supplication is heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
16. And many of the children of Israel shall be turn unto the Lord their God.
17. And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.
Jesus said that once He was raisin from the dead, and sitting at the Fathers right hand He would send the promise of the Father; The Holy Spirit that would now be in you;
In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit only came on a person, and would leave if you sinned; but in the New Testament He; (the Holy Spirit) would be in a person, and will never leave;
Acts 19: 1-6
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said to them; Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? And they said to him; We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said to them; To what then were you baptized? And they said, To John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John truly baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied
Acts 18: 24-26
24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spoke and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him to them, and expounded to him the way of God more perfectly.
